Hey all...

This seems to be my week for needing help.

I'm not sure this is the right forum but here goes.

When I try to play DVD's on either WMP or Real media Player I'm getting an error that says:

"Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. Open Display in Control Panel, and then lower your screen resolution and color quality settings. To view the DVD Troubleshooter, click More Information."

I'm running an EVGA 6800 GT with the 6.14.10.8185 driver. I think that is the latest.

I'm running the monitor in DVI in the native resolution of 1280 X 1024.

I updated the nvidia driver when I installed COD2 three weeks ago and I don't think I've watched a DVD on this system for months at any rate.

I'm suspecting it's a driver issue or maybe a windows update that has affected me somehow.

I'm going to roll back the driver and see if that helps ..I'll report back but in the initerim I wanted to find out if anyone else may have experienced this problem with this driver.

you need a dvd decoder. what program are you using now? if you just have plain WMP, that ain't gonna cut it.

try VLC

Thanks MidKnyte...

I'll give that a try when I get home...but I could swear I played a DVD on WMP shortly after I finished building this rig in July...Maybe I've got it wrong and maybe I was using win amp...but I've played dvd's before on WMP??

you can use WMP, but you still need to have a dvd decoder. WMP doesn't play DVDs natively. you could also use NVDVD since you have an nvidia card.

Well...that would make sense...I removed win amp some time ago when I started using a trial version of Ulead. The Ulead ran out and I deleted that too. I'll reinstall the win amp version that came bundled with the ASUS mobo and see what happens...Thanks !!

Winamp? WMP is Windows Media Player. I don't know where you got Winamp from.

It was intervideo I was thinking about....where did I get win amp from...

I downloaded that media player you linked to above. I tried to get the trial of the nvidia program but it kept asking me for a license key so somehow the trial version link is mucked up.

I also reinstalled the intervideo program as I kind of like the windows mp (familiarity and all). Sure enough all is right in dvd ville on my system tonight. Its funny how much there is to know. there more I learn the more I need to learn.

Thanks again
