Hi guys, I was wondering if anybody has any idea on how to remove the above process from my computer.
I know that it is the BlackICE firewall protection. It came pre-installed in my computer when I bought it, and I want to remove it, because it is a memory hog. I have other forms of firewall protection, and I am not a beginner to computers.
I tried googling for ways to remove it, but all I came up with were 3rd party commercial software that offered to remove BlackICE at a cost (for buying the software).
Any help from the guys around here? Thanks in advance! :t
*Edit*: I found a batch file within the folder that blackd.exe resided, which ran the command "blackd remove". I ran the batch file, and a pop-up window appeared saying that blackd has "encountered a problem and needs to close." So it never got to removing it.

Did you try stopping (and disabling) any related service or MSCONFIG startup item related to it?

Hi Rocketmech, tried the link you gave and it did work... for a while. One of the residual files couldn't be removed, despite a boot to safe mode and a manual command prompt "del" being used.
The problematic file is ICELSP_8.0.614.2.DLL. A "del" under command prompt safe mode gives the error message "Access Denied". I am already logged in as Administrator, so I guess only Bill Gates himself can login to my computer to delete it with his uber access.
BPBill: The blackice firewall program, oddly enough, is nowhere to be found in my startup MSCONFIG. Or at least, I couldn't find any entry that matched the directory where blackd.exe was in.
There isn't even an entry in Add/Remove Programs either.
Anybody with ideas on how to remove this persistent .dll file? Thanks in advance once again :t

Check the "Run" folder in the registry...
From the Run Command, type Regedit and click Ok. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Run
If it is there, delete it. You may want to check the "RunOnce" and "RunOnceEx" folders too. Google anything you find to see if they are needed.
Good luck! :D

Are you sure about this ICELSP_8.0.614.2.DLL. Just asking
Try creating a new Admin. account (delete when finished) and yes there is a difference
In safe mode locate the file...R-click> properties>security check ownership and allow full rights for both Admin accounts
Now try deleting it
Has worked for 'access denied' files
good luck
You may want to do a registry search for blackice and related...export any suspect entries to a folder before deleting, as well as a registry backup

Try to unregister the .dll first , Regsrv32 /u , then Del the file .

I don't get it. Have you checked MSCONFIG > Services > Hide all Microsoft Services?

I don't seem to have "regsrv32.exe"...
BPBill: Yes it is that weird. The mofo program cannot be found anywhere in my msconfig Services nor Startup, and yet it insists that the file is being accessed.

Hi BPBil, your link did work. I managed to remove the .DLL file successfully.
However, now I seem to be in more trouble. The .DLL seemed to have associated itself with particulary everything I have installed on my PC. That includes things like MSN, AVG, IExplore.exe (the process), svchost.exe (another process), and even an application which I use for CAD design (which doesn't even need an internet connection).
So with the file gone, these programs are all acting up.
I cannot access the internet now. I'm presuming svchost.exe couldn't find the darned dll file, and simply shuts up and refuses to work anymore.
Any advice from the folks around here? Thanks in advance once more. :t

I find it hard to believe that all of those apps need a BlackIce file unless it broke all Internet access. That would make sense.
It's time to repair Windows.

Hi BPBill. thanks for the advice. You've been a great help in resolving my issues. I'll go try a repair installation (hopefully it doesn't screw up my settings and applications), and see how it goes from there.

You might try the Winsockxpfix (http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html) before a repair reinstall as Bill suggested.

Thanks Rocketmech! The program worked excellent! I tried a repair install but the same problems still existed.
Now I only have to fix up my Outlook, which seemed to have associated itself with blackice when I installed it even when blackice was present in my system. I had thought this wasn't possible (for outlook to associate itself with an already-present program).
Either that, or blackice scanned my computer and made that link without my knowing.
Thanks once again for all the great help guys! Big thanks goes out especially to BipolarBill! :t

(Sorry couldn't edit the above post after the time limit had passed)
I've sort of managed to find a workaround by removing the add-in associated entry in outlook via the Add-In Manager under Options. Not sure if there's a way to remove the entry cleanly, but I guess that should work for now.
Weird thing is, the entry is called "EMH". I have no idea what that has gotta do with blackd.exe.
