How much memory is installed? Please post the hardware/Operating System specs, and we'll see if we can help! JW Bronco 10-29-1999, 08:24 PM I can think of at least 2 answers to that question But I need more info /forum/smile.gif What else is slow? What are your system resources? What are your system resources on reboot? Hey I'm up to 4 answers /forum/wink.gif ZOT 10-30-1999, 01:46 AM You must have loaded wallpaper that enabled the active desktop "view as web page" option. START-Settings-Active Desktop- uncheck "view as web page" and test. wizzy47 10-30-1999, 07:00 AM Thanks for all the replies. Heres a little about my system. My computer is an HP Pavilion 8576C with a pentium III, 450 Mhz.Windows 98 1st edition. System resources are running in the mid to high 80's. I do not view any folders as web style. All other applications seem to run fine. The only problem is the maximize and minimize time. grandslammer 10-30-1999, 07:33 AM Hi... Just for the heck of it, right click on an "empty" area on your desktop. Then click on properties, then effects. Then REMOVE ALL of the checks, EXCEPT show icons using all possible colors. See if that helps any at all. Should help some anyway. Good Luck In All, Mike P. deep_sky 10-30-1999, 05:39 PM take this with a grain of salt... my computer does the same thing, but I think my problem is due to the cpu overheating. windows does all kinds of weird things when cpu is not happy. you could at least check to see if you can look at your cpu temp and see if it is running a little warm. i do not know the normal temps for your cpu, hopefully some who owns a pentium processor can tell you...just a thought .... Chainsaw 10-31-1999, 09:45 PM My PIII 450 is currently running at 37.5C/99.5F, that's about average for mine, I just added a chassis fan which seemed to bring it down about 3-4 degrees F update: This temp is based on the assumption that the sandra temp reading is correct, which I just found out, it may not be. My bios reports the temp at 93.0F, I think I'd trust the bios temp reading. [This message has been edited by Chainsaw (edited 10-31-1999).] deep_sky 10-31-1999, 10:40 PM where do you find the cpu temp in sandra? just looked and I cannot find it anymore...when I had seti running sandra would tell me in cpu info that my processor was always 125F( k6-2 450 non-oc'ed), i took seti off and now there is no temp at all. however, whenever I click on cpu info, i always get an illegal operation error that i click on close, and it goes away and some info appears.....is something wrong with sandra??? Chainsaw 11-01-1999, 11:12 PM Go to Mainboard Information, 4 clicks down, that's in Sandra version 99.8.5.30 You may have a problem with sandra, but it could be any number of things, the way that seti or other programs were uninstalled etc. I would highly suggest investing in Norton System Works or another diagnostic/maintance program if you don't have one. You may already do regular maintenance, but you'd be surprised how messed up a registry can get after repeated installs and uninstalls. I really like norton system works because clean sweep has a "registry sweep". That, along with the optimization wizard, really keeps things cleaned out and in order. I also like WinDoctor which seems to find a lot of problems that stem from uninstalls. I got an older version of Norton and just use the Live update to keep it current. Happy maintenance . . .
