Is there a way I can block a specific MAC address from connecting to my (Belkin) wireless router? I could do this on my old BenQ router by setting a list of allowed MAC addresses, thereby blocking all others by default, but the Belkin doesn't seem to have this option in the config.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Belkin may have a firmware update the provides that feature.

It's a F5D8230uk4. I found that there are 2 firmware updates available on Belkin's website but I can't find a description of any new features included in them.
The current firmware is 1.00.06, boot version 2.01.08.

goto page 55 will tell you how to set it up

EDIT:

Seems like you can only setup mac filtering for the wireless not all access but better than nothing i guess

I was just about to send another message saying that I'd worked out the "MAC Address Control" thing when I say your message, sbob! Thanks anyway!
All sorted now :) Only legit people connected now :):):)

Makes more sense to allow the MACs of your computers to log ON and block every thing else.

Most of the Cable/DSL Routers (including the Belkin) has this capacity.

I know that. However, my friends often come round with their laptops and I don't want to have to allow each of them individually. I know how it works, I just couldn't find the option on Belkin's config!

Thanks everyone, Sysopt saves the day again!

I have a similar situation.

What do I do?

When a friend comes in the first time, I switch Off the MAC filter and let him log On.

Once he logs On his MAC appears in the Router, I check it as allowed and switch the MAC filter On.

As long as you do not Hard reset the Router, the MAC will stay there "forever".

On the other hand, if you do have 10 new friends, with Wireless Laptop, every day you do have a problem. ;)

Have a Happy Thanksgiving. :t

The easiest thing would be to ask all your friends to email you their MAC addresses and put them all in the mac control list in advance. However, if you want to allow anyone who knows you to use your network, then just use WEP or (better) WPA security. Then you just need to tell people your security settings and they can connect to your network. Beware using WPA though as only newer wireless devices support it.

I also use WPA pre shared keys + TKIP for security.

So I only need to setup my Wireless Device(PPC, Laptop, SmartPhones, etc.) w/o going into the router's/access point's security settings through my PC.

But if you dont change/add/replace devices that often, allowing only specific mac addresses makes a lot of sense. But you will have to reconfigure the router, if you want to connect a new device.
