Hi everyone:
I am new to this site and the PC world.
I need to build my first PC, and I need your help.
I bought all the parts necessary:
Motherboard Athlon BXpert, Celeron CPU 350MHz
etc..
1- I'd like to know how to set (select) the
jumpers(What calculation method should I
use?)
2- How to connect the front panel electrical
wires? (eg. the black and white wire, how
do I know if the black goes to the right
or the left side.
The other interface cables and cards, I know about them.
If you know a web site that help me go thru the steps one by one, I wl realy appciate it.
Tks for your help, and God bless you.

Please tell us exactly what parts you have so far. There seems to be somewhat of a mixup in your spec's As An athlon board cannot be a BX board, and a Celeron will not run on an athlon board, and there is no Celeron 350. If you can do that, We'll all be glad to help you.

Hi Sarah
You're going to find ppl falling over themselves to help you here! /forum/smile.gif
A few suggestions... read all you can.
Do you have a motherboard manual? Read it. /forum/smile.gif It will give you valuable information .
If you have no manual and are having a problem identifying your motherboard (the info so far is generic, we need to know the manufacturer) copy down your Bios String and go here: http://www.ping.be/bios/ and look under Bios Numbers. From the info there you (hopefully) can go to the mfr site and download a manual.
Check out the Guides and Links sections on SysOpt's home page. It will give you and lead to some great information. http://www.sysopt.com/
You can learn alot about your CPU cruising around Intel's site http://support.intel.com/support/processors/sspec.htm
A definitive reference can be found at PCGuide (http://www.pcguide.com/topic.html)
Not knowing how much experience you have, please excuse if you already know some of this. And, best of luck on your venture! /forum/smile.gif

Sounds an awful lot like a PC Chips board, aargh! /forum/smile.gif
Would it be a Model 730? If so, the jumper settings are here http://www.pcchips.com/m730jp.html

Tks for the reply. Here is the spec's:
MB is PC100 BXpert with 686 Amibios 1995.
The CPU is PII Celeron 300.
No problem with other parts.
Tks

Well There is still a little confusion as to which processor you are talking about. The Pentium 2 (PII) is a different processor from the Celeron. Both come as 300's though. /forum/smile.gif

Also, some systems see the Celeron as a Pentium 2. So if you put in a Celeron and it says PII, you really have a Celeron.

Here's an article I found, by our own Joel and Scott /forum/smile.gif

(a bit dated, but gives good installation guidelines..)

sounds like you got a pretty good cpu. a pentium 2 300 or celeron 300 (hopefully you got the 300a with cache) are both good chips and can reach 450mhz in a lot of cases but you shouldn't try it until everything is squared away. sounds like you have a celeron, the multiplier should be set at 4.5 and it usually has four jumpers on most boards I think the jumper setting for 4.5 is off, on, off, on(this is on most mobos that I've seen might be different for you). also sounds like the combo setup that they were selling at FRY's. good luck somebody here should be able to direct you to some good links.

actually it shouldn't concern you what the multiplier should be set at unless your chip was made before august 19,1998(not likely), since it's probably multiplier locked. just set the bus speed to 66 and not 100 at first.

Tks so much to all of you guys for the info. if possible I would like to know how do I select the right setting of a jumper in a motherborad?
I think there is a calculation involved inorder to determine which setting is the right one?
Tks for your help, and God bless you all.

The (multiplier factor) x (external clock). Celeron 300MHz (4.5)x(66)= 297MHz.
Celerons are specified to run the external clock at 66MHz.
Other Celeron examples: 333MHz(5x66)= 330Mhz; 366(66x5.5)=363MHz; 400(66x6)= 396MHz
About the wires, if someone has already mention this, I apologize to both of you, but at times, I don't pay enough attention to what I'm reading...
Don't be overly concerned about which way to put them on. The power and reset switches doesn't matter and will probably work either way. The wires for the LED lights may have to connect the right way for them to light. The worst thing that will happen is the lights won't come on. Since there's only two ways.... well, you know. /forum/smile.gif
~edit
Mention of overclocking settings are deliberately omitted.

bleeding edge is correct it doesn't matter which way it the power and reset plugs in they seem to work either way so you really can't go wrong either way. good luck. also it might be easier if you have another pc and just use norton's ghost to duplicate the hardrive, that way you don't have to format and partition the HD.
