Ok..just got parts and put together a PII 350. Everythings in right. When I boot up, I cant even press del to enter the BIOS, and it wont respond to any keystrokes whatsoever. Also, When i load with my bootdisk, and it is loading my mouse drivers, if I have no mouse in, it will tell me I have none, but If I load with a mouse in, itll freeze up instead. Same thing with loading Windows. It was working fine before when I installed the OS's on it...And now I cant even get into the BIOS! BTW I didnt unplug any PS2 ports while it was on or anything.

Sys Specs -
Abit BH6
PII 350 (reset CMOS to 3.5x66, stuff still doesnt work)
64MB PC133 DIMM
Diamond Monster Fusion Banshee AGP
SB AWE64 ISA
56k Lucent Modem ISA
250w ATX PS
Maxtor 8.4 gb
Floppy
Cyberdrive 44x CD-Rom

Think the boards past Its time? Its only 6 months old!
Maybe I put it thru too much abuse /forum/smile.gif

What OS's did you install, and witch one did you have working? Make sure that Windows9x is on the active partition. Did you install a dual-boot program? Does it come up? Does your keyboard light up? When you hit the buttons alot does it start to beep when you press one? Have you tried booting into both OS's?

Keyboard in left hole correct?? /forum/smile.gif
I installed Windows 98 and Red Hat 6.0
It worked completely for about 2 days, and then after a restart, the two things dont work
Ill have to look for a serial adapter, but im pretty sure that will work.

Ive tryed shorting the CMOS jumper, and the battery was just replaced last week.
If i really did blow out the ports, it would have told me I have no mouse when It's in and I load the mouse drivers on the bootdisk. Instead it just freezes. This is the only thing thats giving me any hope at all.

When i run it, Win 98 is the default and active partition and I use the LILO dual booter. I believe I was using Win98 as the last OS before the PS/2's went caput.

Aura,

With it hanging when you boot it would led me to belive you are getting a resource conflict or driver conflict somehow. I would try a serial mouse withOUT your ps/2connected and try to get into windows safe mode then delete the mouse (mice) and try again letting windows use the default drivers.

I didnt install any mice drivers at all. And can you raelly have a keyboard resourse conflict?

I personally have never seen a keyboard conflict but I'm running out of ideas /forum/frown.gif

what happended when you tried a serial mouse?

I dont hane one handy.
Now, after i tryed resetting the CMOS again I got a checksum error and tells me that the CMOS was reset. I cant continue form that point on without pressing f1 or del...which I cant do.
So I cant reallty try a serial now...
hmm

Just a thought...I once crushed my mouse cord by putting the system box on top of it. System locked up tight from that point on.

It took me a while to figure it out and in the end got a new mouse and all was well once again.

Try booting up without the mouse or keyboard attached and see how the bios handles it.

When I do that, im stuck at the note where it tells me the CMOS has been reset, since you have to press a key after that to continue. BTW its highly unlikely that my mouse and keyboard would stope working at the same time..this is why i am targeting the PS2 ports as the culprit.

You might try resetting your bios.Since you can't get into it you may have to remove the battery or short the cmos jumper.
This may sound like a stupid question and I know you know your way around the puter but are you sure you don't have the keyboard and mouse plugged to the wrong connectors?
What happens if you plug a serial mouse in?

auraedge the same thing happened to my ps/2 mouse port. tried everything I could think of but nothing worked. the only thing that might be a problem is that my registry might have been screwed up when I tried to go beyond 500mhz on my p2 333. with both the ps/2 mouse and keyboard connected everything wouldn't work, the mouse or keyboard. I think it's because my mouse loads first in the boot option. anyways when I put in my serial mouse the keyboard and mouse works fine it's just that the serial mouse bites when trying to play gamescuz the refresh rate is too low. I know there are no resource conflicts with the ps/2, tried removing the mouse and windows sense it and installs drivers for the ps/2 but it just stops working(I get error code 24). the bios recognizes when there is a pointing device installed in the ps/2 port or not so I'm thinking this is a software problem, probably something in my registry and I don't really know enough to mess with that. I'm still looking to find a solution and I'll pass it on if I find out something, good luck. wierd how it just stops working?

So it could be internal?

Hmm Im still looking for a serial mouse!
So your saying everything was fine when you got a serial on it?
Ill check it out!

--EDIT
BTW If i take the HDD and format it on another comp, wont it eliminate the possiblility of a resourse or software conflict?
Im planing to do that soon and start from scratch

yeah I think if you started from stratch it would work fine. the only thing is that you mentioned that the keyboard wouldn't even work and let you in the bios. mine did let me into the bios and let me boot into safe mode by pressing the f8 key. this is when my ps/2 tries to load at boot up and then everything stops working. but if your keyboard doesn't doesn't work at all when you try to get to the bios it could be a little different from my prob. but check it out with a serial mouse and see if it works. good luck
