Lately my 40GB IBM has started making annoying beeping sounds at me, so I downloaded the Deskstar ID utility. It told me I should upgrade the drive's firmware to FA5AA, but I can't seem to find that so far. Anybody got it handy?

fancyf - merci, I think you're on the right track. I'm betting xxxxxx16.exe is the right one. In any case, I've sent HGST an email since I'm not sure what to make of this result:

Well, after discussion with HGST, and actually looking at the drive, it turns out it has Apple firmware on it. Anybody got a toll-free number for Apple support? I'm looking but I haven't found it yet...

Since I can't edit my previous post here is the pic again:

I called Apple and they said drive firmwares are germaine to the systems they come in. Guess I have to find an Apple specialist around here...

Boy is there egg on my face...

The beeping sound wasn't the hard drive at all, as I took it out and continued using the PC without it. The beeping recurred - my CPU was getting too hot. I cleaned off the core and heatsink, and put on a fresh layer of '5 ... temp down by ~15-20 degrees.
