Hi!

After a power cut, my external HDD is not recognized by Windows (XP pro) any more. It is only shown as a local disk without the name I gave it, the NTFS file system is not recognized in the administration tools and I cannot access the files. It is completely recognized by a data recovery program such as GetDataBack. Is there a way I can recover access to it and thus avoid using GetDataBack ?
Thanks a lot for your help.

was it plugged into a surge protector? looks like you might have lost access and did you use NTFS or FAT32? If XP can't see it as other than a local disk looks like you may not get access to the data

tell us again in detail what you see in admin tools about the drive itself?

Thank you for your answer. No, it was not plugged into a surge protector. one of the programs crashed and made the computer restart. The administration tools say the correct letter of the drive, its correct capacity (160 G), it's healthy and active, it's NTFS formated, and it's got 100% free space, which is wrong because it there remain only 50 G unused. It's true I can't get access to the data.
