Hi guys,
I am using one 64MB 66MHz SDRAM chip at 8 Ns.
I REALLY need to upgrade my ram. My bud can get me a deal on a 64MB 100MHz chip. Question is, will mixing the 66 with the 100MHz memory hurt.... or will the 100MHz even work? The mother board is a Intel 440LX chipset and is set at 66 Mhz bus speed (acctually overclocked to 75 MHz). Also, what is the difference between chips, EDO, DIMM, SDRAM, ECCRAM, ect. This is the first time I have really needed RAM and have no clue. Would appreciate any help possible.

It won't hurt to mix them; the PC100 RAM will just run at 75mhz. As for RAM types:

1. EDO - used on older P1 class systems, ran at 60 or 66mhz, and is now obsolete.

2. DIMM - Dual Inline Memory Module. Not a type of RAM, but a RAM form factor. EDO and SDRAM are DIMMs. As opposed to SIMMs.

3. SDRAM - Syncronous Dynamic Random Access Memory. Used in SS7, Slot-1, S370, and Slot-A system. Runs at frequencies ranging from 66 to 150mhz, depending on the PC rating.

4. ECC - Error Correction Code. A set of standards that allows the CPU to correct any errors in the Data stored in RAM without overhead. This is REALLY expensive and only used in high-end servers and workstations.

Please correct me if I'm wrong on anything here, and add more detail.

if that chip your using now is 8ns then it is pc-100 memery just marked as a pc-66 chip as any chips running 10ns or less will run at 100 mhz speeds or above
