I need some Help! drdeath 10-06-1999, 07:16 AM i havent personally used them, but i have heard that hi val is a cheap way to go. they arent the best you can do, but they make stuff that gets the job done for a reasonable price - so basically, you get what you pay for Stan 10-06-1999, 07:48 AM Hi Sorry, but I never used any Hi-Val drives. Have you seen this thread ? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/001930.html I would personally go for Plextor. But, at work, we have a Yamaha 4416 and 6416: they are really good drives. Stan kevind224 10-06-1999, 10:18 AM I've owned a Hi-Val 2242 for almost a year now. I got it at a very good sale at CompUSA. Yes, it is cheaper than others, but I have had no problems with it. I have made many CDs (about a dozen I guess) and only once made a bad one (probably my fault). I've been able to copy from my CDROM right to the CD writer with no problems. I like the software came with it, it's very easy to use. It turns out this is a JVC model. If you can get one real cheap it's worth it, but if it's close to the price of a an HP or Sony you are probably better with the name brand. Kevin bdog 10-06-1999, 10:48 AM I would spend the money on a better drive. The prices on them have really come down. A friend of mine at my isp told me that they bought a hival burner to burn their connection software for users, and it lasted for about 20 burns, it was returned to the store where they got it, and the second one lasted about the same length of time. The third time around they returned it and got a phillips and have been happy ever since. welsh wizard 10-07-1999, 07:03 AM well I might have made a B@@@s Up I bought 2 of these suckers, now I don't know if I should just sell them on, only consulation is that they cost less for the pair than a HP7100 over here. interesting thing is they are both badged as 2242's but are both diferent one seems to be a hitachi, and not sure of the make of second one, perhaps its a JVC, if the one burns out after 20 burns I let you all know.
