I have a FIC 503+ MB (Bios Feb 99). A resonably new 13G IBM 7200 rpm HD running UDMA 4. Today I ticked
the DMA box & the wheels fell off!!

Would not even run in safe mode. BSOD over & over. I had to restore an older version of the registry to get
running again.

Anybody able to explain this??

P.S. Win 98

Is your system oc'd (overclocked) at all? I know when I tried enabling DMA for my hard drive when I had the FSB increased from 100MHz to 124 MHz, I experienced similar symptoms... If you system is overclocked at all, try bringing it back down to speed, and see what happens.

Nope..It is a 100mHz K62 300
running at 300 with FSB at 100mHz.

Have you tried disabling the UDMA/66 some motherboards have trouble when it is enabled? You should find a program on the IBM web site to do it. Also have your BIOS auto detect the DMA mode this should put you in UDMA/33.
