If you feel this would be better in Technical Support please feel free to move it.

My original problem was a dodgy Video Card Driver problem in XP Professional. I eventually solved this but it would have been so much easier if I could have disabled the Detect New Hardware.

I've tried everything I could think of but the damned thing kept coming up "Found New Hardware". Then it installed the driver AGAIN. It doesn't even give me the option to cancel it.

There is nothing in the Bios that would help. It's an HP/Compaq d530. The BIOS has precious little in it option-wise.

I've search windows help ! Perhaps I would have got a better response if I'd tried a foreign language

I've Googled !

I even tried Microsoft. Nothing seems to fit the bill

I've had it !!

Is it possible?

Regards

Dave

It's been a while, but I recall reading you can temporarily Rename the Windows\INF folder to stop the auto detect.

Thanks.

It's one of those things where you're sure it is possible, but when push comes to shove you can't remember how.

As I said earlier I fixed the real problem. Next time I get chance I'll give it a go.

Thanks again.

Regards

Dave.
