I am building my first computer and am having problems when I try to start it up. I hear one beep then four beeps and get a message saying "system hardware abnormal". I bypass this message and then get another saying that there is a conflict with I/O port 2F8. I'm not sure if these two are related and my system continues booting afterward but I would really like to know what is going on.

If you have an ISA jumpered modem that is set to COM2, that could be your I/O conflict. You can disable that Serial port in your BIOS and the message should go away.

I'm not sure about those beeps codes you are experiencing. What BIOS is that?
