you mayhave a corrupted copy of the Win98 installation files. try to install win95 first and if it works, upgrade to win98. that usually works

see whats in your config.sys and autoexec
to see if there are any real mode drivers
trying to load...
also take all the boards out of the system
(except whats needed)
rule of thumb in a case like this you have
to get to a PLAIN VANILLA system and work
from there....

I don't know to much about the IBM computer you have. Did you use a win 98 startup disk when you formated your drive?
I recently had similar problems installing a fresh copy of W95 on an IBM. Try disabling everything you don't need in the BIOS first, like an IR port (If there is one) and especially any power management garbage. Then try reloading your OS. It worked beautifully for me... Good luck.
thanks for all the help guys, it was just a curropt 98, i got a se edition and loaded and it works fine.
btw: its not my comp, its my works, i preffer the home grown cpu (433@541) /forum/smile.gif

you may want to try a different way of loading win98 as well, do you have access to it over a network? the cd could be physically corrupted (ie scratch).......
