I was looking through the forum and couldn't find an exact answer to my problem. I'm at work so maybe if I spent more time looking. Oh well...

I just installed a new SATA 100gb drive into my system with a fresh install of XP Home. All good there. Then, I plugged my old 80 gb IDE drive into IDE1 (jumper on master) and powered up. The computer recognizes the IDE (as C: and my SATA as E: but that's another minor issue) and all is good...until. I copied some files between the two drives and want to format the IDE drive for use as extra storage for home video making. I started the format, but when it gets to the end it tells me that it can not format the drive. Now it still shows up but is useless. Should I change the jumper settings to slave on the IDE? Is there another way to format? I originally formatted throught my computer as opposed to cmd prompt. Should that make a difference? Also, should I think about an external enclosure and go that route?

Any help is appreciated. Sorry for the long post but I'm trying to be specific.

My specs:

GA8PE667 Ultra 2
P4 2.53
1.5gb RAM
EVGA 6600GT (AGP)
SB Audigy Gamer
SATA 100gb
ATA (IDE) 80gb

Set the ATA drive for Cable Select.
