Greetings everyone! I was wondering if anyone had any experience or opinions of this (http://www.pcmicrostore.com/PartDetail.aspx?q=p:10502778) external ide to usb case. I just purchased a Sony DRU-810a and want to put in an external case to share amongst several pc's. If I am understanding this correctly it should be all I need correct? No other power supply or adapters? This is the only one I found reasonbly priced that advertises "Compatible with the latest DVDRW (double layer & lightscribe)" . Any opinions appreciated.

The drive won't work without a power "brick". This model has what's called a "Power Core Cable" under "Package includes". I don't know what that is. I trust Newegg:

Thanks for the reply Bill. Anyone in particular you would recommend? I am leaning toward this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817146017) one. It's a Coolmax, and has more features then the first one I asked about. And by dealing with Newegg I am guaranteed great service! What do you think?

The Coolmax is what I own. It's a good unit.

Ok, everything arrived today but I can't seem to get it working properly. It's a Sony dru-810a installed in a Coolmax cd-510b-u2 USB enclosure. I have an "unpug or eject hardware" icon in my taskbar and am showing another cd drive under 'My Computer". I am running W2000 and no matter what disk I put in (CD, DVD) it won't read it. I have tried master, slave, and CS jumper settings with no luck. I can't find any tech support on Coolmax's website so was hoping you could help. The only drivers that came with the enclosure where for Win98SE. Any ideas?

You need to look in Disk Management (DISKMGMT.MSC). Disk Management is well hidden. The easiest way to get to it and other consoles is to right-click My Computer and select "Manage".
Here, you can import a drive, partition, format and reletter it.

Well I have been all through disk management as well as read the info contained in the link you sent me. It seems my computer is recognising the drive, just not communicating with it. I can't even eject the cd by right clicking on it. I am going to try to post a couple screenshots of disk management to see if you see something wrong that I'm missing. I have a cd player, a cd buner, and the dvd burner in the external enclosure that I am attempting to use. The first pic will be a screenshot showing all 3 drives empty. In the next pic there is a disk in all 3 drives, although Windows only reads 2 of them.

How could you possibly have 3 drives in one enclosure? Which one is the Coolmax?
