I just bought a new Hitachi 250Gig SATA today for my new build. Is it best to use the SATA for the O/S and GAmes or a seperate drive for each.....O/S on ATA, and games on SATA? What's the scoop?

Midknyte 11-05-2005, 10:49 PM it won't make that much difference if the drives are the same. use the drive with the fastest spindle speed, highest cache, highest platter density as your main drive. it wouldn't make that much difference to put the OS and games on separate drives. steve s 11-06-2005, 09:39 AM Thanks, I didn't know if there might be some "secret" or trick known primarily to gamers about how to use multiple drives to enhance games performance. Is it true that the dif. between 8m cache and 16m cache (HDD) does not make that much differnce in gaming also? ONe more thing....what about if you have only the O/S on one drive, and games on the other.......then if you have a drive problem with the O/S one......you won't have to reload all your games and optimize them again right.....you just replace the O/S drive and carry on? Any advantage to that thinking. Sounds like a good idea?? Midknyte 11-06-2005, 07:02 PM once the game loads, the hdd makes almost no difference. it's mostly cpu, video card, and ram. you would have to reload the games because all the registry info would be missing.
