cant load win98 in new system is it bios

I just built a new system containing an fic sd-11 motherboard,diamond stealth III 540 vid card, maxtor 17.2 gig hdd and sound blaster live. I am using an AMD 650 ,there is onlt one jumper on the board and it is for clearing the cmos. windows 98 starts to load and then just shuts the system down and the computer comes back up saying that windows didnt load properly. and i did check to make sure all drives and cds were detected by the bios and they are. I have also properly formatted the harddrive. I am also running 128mg pc100 ram and a 300 watt power supply and have loaded all the cd rom drivers .it just shuts off at different points of the windows loading.Have been working on this for about 3 days and have tried about everything ! can someone tell me what the bios settings should be for this configuration

if your bios is the correct one, then you start with the first menu and work your way through, using your motherboard's manual for things relative to the board. set the drives on autodetect. if that doesnt work, then go to manual mode and enter in the data according to what type of drive(s) you have. since you did not mention your cpu type and speed, i cannot tell you what your cpu settings ought to be.

Are all your devices being recognized in the BIOS?
Did you Fdisk the hard drive?
Did you install the cd-rom drivers?

Check your bios for a Virus Check enabled and Disabled switch. Is your Mobo a VIA chipset? If so, you have to load some of their drivers before loading windows.

try hitting F8 before windows trys to load right before you see the loading windows message. its a timing thing might have to try it a few times before ya get it lol /forum/smile.gifI just start hiting F8 realy fast right before i know it's going to say noow loading windows lol /forum/smile.gifand boot in safe mode if it will then try a step by step load but it sounds like you have a corupted registry if none of that works i would reformat the hard drive and reload windows good luck /forum/smile.gif
