I have tested the performance of my CDROM drive (Toshiba 6202B - 32X) and my Yamaha CWW6416S (SCSI Re-Writable) using Easy CD Creator's test, and also using CD Speed 99 available at http://users.glo.be/~erikd/cdspeed.htm
The performance of these two drives doesn't seem that good. I am running Win98SE, and was wondering if there is anyway to make sure i'm getting the best performance from them.

Thanks

What aspect of the CD performance are you looking at?

If you are looking as access speed, you might take a look at your other system components which might be putting an artificial limit on how fast the CD-ROM can pump data.

I'd start with looking for the latest drivers for your CD-ROM drives, your SCSI card, and also your PC-BUS. You might also look at the tolerances of your mobo when it comes to RAM, Can your system utilize SDRAM DIMMS in the 10ns speed range. An older system I have can't handle a DIMM faster than 60ns which limits the performance of some of the other system components I have.

Lastly, perhaps a newer BIOS might help.

Another thing which might slow you down is a cheap video card.

i also was unhappy with the benchmarks on my 24X cd-rom.so i played around in cmos..my cd is connected to my secondary master controler, but in cmos it was set to NONE. i changed it to auto detect and set the drive parameter for LARGE.(also tried LBA and NORMAL with no change) in advanced chipset set secondary master to pio mode 4/dma 2 and then rebooted and ran the same test again.the performance more than quadrupled. you could give that a shot, you have nothing to lose by trying and if it doesn't work, just put the settings back the way they were.
