Quick Raid 1 Question

I understand that in a Raid 1 sequence, if one hard drive fails, your computer resumes normally because it uses the mirror hard drive. However, I am wondering how do you know when the first hard drive breaks down if there is no interruption?

depending on the card, you would get an alert of some kind, like a message during the bios boot. otherwise, you would have to periodically check your event viewer.

The Mylex card I was using had a utility just for that and had a status icon in the sys tray as well...
