Girls are bigger bullies
Paula Beauchamp, education reporter
31oct05

GIRLS are more vindictive and emotionally damaging than boys, especially in the "beauty pageant" years of 13 to 15, research has found.

Adolescent psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg's internet survey of about 1500 teenage girls was released yesterday at a national conference on bullying in Melbourne.

Bullying reported by girls included:
INVITING victims to non-existent venues, taking photos of their struggle to find them and posting them on the web.
PUTTING a fellow student's toothbrush in the toilet, taking photos and posting them later.
PUTTING dog food in a cake that was baked and given to another girl.
Dr Carr-Gregg said teachers struggled to detect girl-to-girl bullying because it was conducted in a furtive and underground manner.
"Girl bullying typically revolves around the queen bee at the top, followed by sidekicks, bankers, float-ins and targets," he said. "Many girls want to climb the totem and this expands the nature and incidence of the problem."

Other research, released at the National Coalition Against Bullying conference, found teachers and school programs could help reduce moderate bullying. But Canadian researcher Prof Debra Pepler, of the La Marsh Centre, said programs had little effect on systematic bullies. "Many of these children have very severe behaviour problems," Prof Pepler said. "Schools are not mental health centres."

Federal Education Minister Brendan Nelson told the conference schools that didn't adopt an anti-bullying program by January could lose funding.

They are also urged to send letters to all parents, warning them to be on guard for signs of bullying. Alannah and Madeline Foundation researcher Sandra Craig said structured lunch-time programs helped to reduce bullying in schools.

Ms Craig's review of anti-bullying programs found occupying kids through programs such as sports clubs and homework clubs reduced anti-social practices.

Every Victorian government school is set to receive a new book outlining ways to reduce bullying in their schools. Bullying Solutions outlines anti-bullying programs and how to implement them.

The Alannah and Madeline Foundation has also announced its anti-bullying program, Better Buddies, is to be adopted in Denmark.

Well JM, we all know you limeys prefer your beer at cat-pee temperature.
Matter of fact, I've heard it said thats what it tastes like too :)

Back to nasty women and their bullying for a mo. I'd have though it common knowledge that girls emotionally bully, and boys do it physically.
I'm not sure which is worse, although with guys you always know where you stand.

In fact thats the best thing you could have. It lowers the body temp a bit and so the coldness outside doesn't seem as bad.
Just like you'd think that the last thing you've want to eat in India or any of those hot countries would be a piping hot curry, but because it makes your body hotter the temperature outside while still hot, doesn't seem so bad.
