I just got done putting a new PC together, and I have some problems with my CD-R drive. CD-R drive is set as a master and DVD drive is set as a slave. DVD works just fine, but CD-R is unstayable and it takes for ever to copy files. Sometimes when I insert a CD into the CD-R drive the computer just haults. Does anybody have any suggestions?

First go to the "Device Manager" in "System Properties" and uncheck both drives for "DMA". If that don't work try switching the order of the drives around.

90% sure it's the DMA thing.

The DMA setting was originaly disabled, so I don't think that is the problem.

Make your DVD master, worked for me on different setup.

I have had similar problems. Try setting CD-R as primary slave to HD; and DVD as slave to Secondary. In other words, try putting DVD & CD-R on different data cables.

Good luck.

I have switched DVD to master and CD-r to slave and it still didn't work out. Scince the system is brand new - I thought I should try reinstalling Win98 - and so I did. Now everything is just fine, so the problim must have been in software (drivers).
