Is it just me, or do other people think that changing how the response time of LCDS screens from black-to-white-to-black to grey-to-white-to-grey is a bit underhanded?

Of course its going to take only about a third as long to go from grey to grey rather from black to white and back again.
I'm seeing these 'breaking news' items about how brand XXX has just released a 3ms screen, but when you examine things more closely the response time is identical to an 8ms screen thats been rated using the older and accepted rating system of B-W-B.

Its like that misleading PMPO crapola. As if a speaker with a driver rated at 3W is capable of 240W like some I've recently seen claim!

Heres one example:

Trace Free Technology– Fast response time at 3ms
The response time of the PM17TU reaches 3ms through the revolutionary ASUS Trace Free Technology. To deliver smooth and flawless video, Trace Free Technology implemented the innovative anti-double-edge overdriving method with noise reduction circuits to reduce response time in all gray-to-gray levels, eliminating annoying ghosting and tracers for superior video images. (PM17TU only).

It's very misleading to people with less knowledge; exactly what they want. People hear that you need a low response time to avoid movement artifacts and they see 3ms; then they're sold.
Car audio or cheap stuff always BS their ratings by not qualifying them. i.e. 240 watts at 50% distortion. :t

Misleading is of course the whole aim on these new ratings. Heaven help any poor schmuck who buys a G-G 8ms screen to play games on

Its bad enough when a 200Gb HDD only holds 186Gb, a 17" Screen only displays a 15.6" image, and a 240W set of speakers contain 3W drivers!
Now a 3ms screen is actually an 8ms, and an 8ms is realy a 23ms!
