16 color and 32 bit color

I notice no difference in 16 and 32 bit color, and according to Sandra I can speed up my computer slightly by switching to 16 bit..any truth to this?

Yup, it's true. If you see no difference, then make the switch.

It all depends on ones personal preferance. For example... My wallpaper of Shania Twain .... I can see a huge difference between 16 bit and 32 bit. And can still see a sizable difference between 24 bit and 32 bit. I guess it all depends on pic quality in my case. And for the speed difference, I'll leave mine at 32 bit. It's not that big of a difference to me.

i had my computer at 16 bit color for awhile because for some reason 32 bit color would slow down the computer so much it was having trouble redrawing the screen. When I reset the CMOS, it seemed to fix whatever was the matter and now I have 32 bit color on. If you have enough memory and a fast enough cpu, i do not see why you need to run at 16, unless you are trying to get every last drop out of your computer's performance

perhaps I am mistaken.. but both 24 and 32 bit modes have the same amount of colors available (at least that's what I heard, both do 16777216 colors). The extra 8 bits are used only as data bits.. for alpha blending and things like that

keep in mind that some video cards support some things in specific video modes and not in others.
for example, my starfighter video card won't support open GL if it is not in 16 bit mode. sucks but my machine runs MUCH happier with 16 bit as opposed to 24 or 32.
Also slightly on topic- If you've got a fat .bmp for your wall paper your machine will also take a performance hit.
