cd rw will read but won't burn won't even test burn locks up

Hi guys i borrowed a acer 6206a RW and it worked fine at my buddys house in his computer

i put in it mine and it has no problems going in or being a regular cd rom

i used the included software adaptech easy cd creator
3.01a

i use the wizard and do my disk layout

then i hit go and it asks for a cd
i put a blank in
it checks it out
and it looks like its about to go but then it just sits there
the hard drive light lights and stays lit solid but the HD doesn't make any sounds that it's doing anything
and thats it it locks up
i crtl+alt+del and shut down easy cd creator
and the hard drive light is still solid on
and u can't do anything like look at whats on the HD anymore cause it's busy
i have to shut down and restart to get it working again
everything else works fine except trying to burn

i have also tried to use the nero demo and it locks up too

i don't think it's the software cause my buddy uses the same stuff

i have tried pulling out my modem and sound card to free up some resorces in case that was the problem and no go

it works fine in his computer

i have a p2 266 with 64 megs of ram and a 3d gig hard drive that i scandisked and defraged before i started this

any help would be greatly aprecitated

Had a similar problem myself with Easy cd with a philips RW, Nero did work but sporadically. Just got easy CD4 works perfectly everytime now, you might try downloading the upgrade from Adaptec.

I never found a cure either, just Easy4.

I had a similar problem with mine but it is a memorex 1622 and I got new software works fine now too
