I'm working on the BackOfHouse ("server") system from a POS system that should have been retired by now, but, since it hasn't been put out to pasture yet, maybe I can revive it one more time. (With a little help from the Sysopt community that is...)

It's running NT4 Workstation, and when it boots, it gets the Dr Watson error: Initialization of IMAGEHLP.DLL failed and will terminate abnormally, or something like that. All that shows up is the cursor. The 3-finger salute shows that I am logged on (it's supposed to autologon to a user account), attempts to bring up task manager then tells me I'm running low on virtual memory, and sometimes then restarts, sometimes blue screens. I've pulled the drive and scanned for viruses, nothing is found there. (Housecall & Nav with latest updates.) I've also ran checkdisk which found no errors either. Does this sound like a memory problem? This beast has .....RAMBUS memory. (No comment). Any thoughts? Anxiously waiting a response..........Thanx!

nothing to do with virus

just a missing file, or damaged file

that looks like a dll help file portion for some of the installed program

unless it's a Spy ware file

all you need to do is boot into Safe Mode

and uninstall or re-install the programs you have in there.

also inclease the PageFile size, and maybe give it more RAM to that machine. :t

This may be of help to you:

http://support.microsoft.com/dllhelp/

Try to find out what service pack the system has installed and upgrade it to the latest version (if you are allowed).

Thanks for the replies;

No spyware found, has to be corrupt or missing file(s); This is NT4.0, no safemode. Tried VGA mode, still will not load the desktop. This already has sp6 installed. Is there anyway to reinstall the service pack from the console? I can boot with a WinPE disk and run it from there, if possible.

Thanx!
