I know there is a film coating layer on top of every CRT or even some/majority LCD screens.

Just want to know. If I used a soft cloth that is applied with water, is it possible that I may already had damaged the layer badly?? Yeah I am a guy who asks about this cause I mean, my computer is like my wife. /forum/smile.gif

I think you should be okay with water. I'm sure everyone has sneezed on their screen once in a while. Damp rather than wet is the key. Even better, use proprietary screenwipes, especially to remove fingerprints, grease etc.
I think the real damage comes from alcohol based cleaners and other solvents. It may be that the cloth you used was already impregnated with something like a polish, and that may have damaged the coating. My old 15" has a nice matt smear in one corner where I applied some Mr Sheen. Doh!

I'd be careful with those Notebook style LCDs. But for the past 15 years I've been using Glass Plus on a paper towel to clean my screen. This has been on Sony and Tandy monitors so I can't comment on any other types... I think the harm comes when folks just hose the screen down with cleaners like they do with TVs(i.e. spray bottle crazy) But don't use any weird stff. No Endust, bleach, car wax, gasoline, etc. Of course I'm sure someone once thought their monitor would look much better with a coating of Turtle Wax... As long as the front is glass, a regular glass cleaner should be fine. But use a higher quality one. Some of those cheap ones stink to high heaven from ammonia.

I use some stuff called Zaino Z-6. Actually it's a gloss enhancer for my car, but it's great stuff.

1. Removes Dust, fingerprints, and sneeze marks. /forum/smile.gif
2. Non-abrasive
3. Anti-static

I use it on my TV also.

Navy Dood, would that be ADJ? Where do you get that stuff you use to clean?

Best thing I've found are baby wipes. They do not contain alcohol and are designed to remove almost anything. Also, they don't leave behind as much lint as do kleenex or papertowels. Also, they are less abrasive than most paper towels. Lastly, most kleenex these days have some type of skin softener impregnated within them. No telling what that might do to any kind of anti-glare coating on your screen.
