hi, i am trying to gather general statistics on how often hard disks crash and the number of people are caught by not backing up their data for a uni presentation i am doing.

not per make or anything, but something like

* X out of Y hard disks will crash
or
* 90% of people loose everything when their disks crash

any help appreciated.

That’s pretty much an impossible question to answer. There are way too many variables….

In theory, 100% of hard drives will crash at some point. Can’t say that I’ve ever lost a drive, but have a co-worker that did and lost everything. That’s a 50% ratio. Have a friend that crashed but got most information back. How do you factor that in -> 1 in 3 (33%) ?

Good luck:-)

you can try looking at this site:
www.storagereview.com

maybe you can post something at their forum since they deal almost exclusively with hard drives.
