Getting ready to setup a new drive and as till now have always only used one partition. So what are the pros/cons in this and what would be the best wat toset it up?
Using W2K and have never had more than 10gigs of data on a drive. The new drive is a 40gig WD.
Is it best to use primary for all apps and programs, then extended just for files?
Any usefull links?
Thanks, bonz

I like to keep my OS away from my other programs. Just keeps things cleaner in my mind. It has not real advantage that I can see profomance wise.

I have a minimum of 2 partitions, one from OS and programs and one for data. if your windows install gets messed up, you can just format the partition without worrying about the data getting erased.

So if I had C: at say 5gig and D: for the rest of the drive what should go into C:?
OS, antivirus, Adawre, spybot, Drive Image and apps like these? Then all others like Word, Wave Repair, Nero, Photo Shop into D:

i don't put apps on a different partition since you'd have to reinstall them anyway. use drive image or ghost to make an image on the D: drive.

Depending on the amount of "data: you have, I'd make C at least 10 to 15 gigs. It really stinks when C gets full;)

Just tried Acronis True Image 9 to clone the new drive and thought I could add a partition while doing this but either I didn't do it right or it wont do it if it isn't already there.
Guess now I'll have to try Partition Magic or something.
Steve, the old drive was a 13gig Seagate and after almost 3 years still only had about 6gigs of stuff on it with about half of that being LPs that I've been cleaning up to burn to CD. But will keep that in mind!
