Hello people, Im building my first computer and I'm having a problem. Everything is put together but it wont turn on. I've taken out the power supply and plugged in and the fan wont turn, so I'm guessing its the power supply. This PS also has a switch in the back. My question is, is a ATX PS suppose to turn on even though its not connected to the motherboard?

Frist thing an ATX power supply will not work if it is not plugged into the motherboard. Make sure everything is hooked up properly and try again...But then again it could be the power supply.

Try unplugging all device (CDRom,Floppy, etc) leaving only Main Harddrive connected - see if will start.
Make sure Your Box is ATX. Try using the Reset Button as the ON/OFF button to the Mother Board and see if it fires up.

The problem is fixed. The problem was that that the pin setting was set for a slot1 processor. When I switch it to a socket 370 for my celeron it turned on fine. Now the only thing is that my floppy drive light is always on.
