I have an adapter cable that allows me to use my current Xbox controller.

The question is what PC games will allow me to use a controller?
The only one I've tried so far is doom 3 & that does not work

Try it with one of the Need for Speed games...you may be more successful using that controller with simulators rather than FPS types.

you could actually cut the end off the original xbox controller and cut off the end of a usb cable and wire them together, they use the same wiring pair and when you plug it in it actually detects as xbox controller
