I did a clean install of Windows XP SP2 (not Dell version) on a Dell Latitude D600 and then loaded all the drivers I think I needed from the Dell download page. Everything seems to work OK except I can't see my WEP wireless network.
The only other unexpected thing is I have two wireless network icons in the tray, one multibar icon for the Dell utility and a mini-pc icon for Microsoft WZC. The Dell utility doesn't see the network and the WZC says it can't connect because other software is in use. I checked Services and it shows ZNC is automatic and stopped.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Open your network connections. Open the properties page for your wireless adapter. There is a check box on the second tab that states enavble or disbale WZC. Make sure the box is unchecked. It causes issues with our Cisco and Linksys cards if our D600's did not have integrated NICS or the Dell Mobile Adapter if we did order internal ones. That disables the WindowsXP wireless services/drivers.
You should be able to set up a profile in the Dell software. You may need to reboot but that fixes the issues for us. We use LEAP instead of WEP at the office. I use WEP at home because my Linux systems don't support WPA (with my adapter or I can't get it to work).

I would first disable security on the wireless router, make sure you have connectivity with the dell, then start reapplying security. leave SSID broadcast enabled.

Thanks for the fast responses. I tried the 2nd method and got connected with the SSID broadcast enabled and security disabled. Have yet to re-enable the security and see if all is still ok.

I turned on the security and all is OK. Is there a way to do this without disabling security if the SSID and key are known?

WinXP is very finicky about the SSID broadcast. you should leave that on. all the other security like MAC filtering, should be fine.
