I want to change that in system.ini for windoz95. My question is I'm told that max should be 25% of ram or 16M max. But that 16M is really a setting of 16384. Am I correct? In the old days of small amounts of ram it was 512 min and 4096 max. But I've got 96M of ram. And the min can be set the same as the max? Thanks alot for your help.

Here's a good guide http://epsilon.silicon.net.my/adrian/ Hit the Speed Demonz Page.

Got it and thanks. btw, this isn't to speed up the system. win95 is letting a couple of my apps run ram completely out. I'm glad the fellow mentioned that chunksize was a win98 setting. Thanks again.

You may also want to look at the Swapfile Optimization Guide on the main page at Adrian's, under Articles/Projects (if you haven't seen it already) - this may help with managing your RAM for those apps.

And it's been my experience that you'll be getting many suggestions for this. /forum/smile.gif

I also run a program called cacheman. If you're interested, mail me and I'll send you a copy. It's freeware. I used an earlier version, and wasn't particularly impressed, but this one is more user friendly, and more customizable.

Good luck in all...

Thanks everyone. What started this all was that I found a trojan on a cd that a friend sent. I had to make the disc writeable again to remove the file. But then ez coaster creator wouldn't let me change it back to standard cd-rom readable. It processed nearly to the end of the disc, then hung. I'd had the same problem with my AV software set at "100% paranoid". With some of the larger zip files, it hung. DirectCD works now, although I haven't tried Dr. Solomon's without ctrl-alt-del and going to a bare bones system. Mike, I have your email addy down if this doesn't cure all. For right now, I want to try one thing at a time. Thanks again, all.
