Ok.. Can someone help me please.. I just got this 27.4 GB Maxtor ATA/66, and I don't know how to make it run at ATA/33 ( 33mbps ), and also I have to install the MAX-Blast HD Utility disk.. Oh yeah there's two more, I tried to install this program that came with my motherboard, it was to enable/disable the UDMA, and after I died, the system just hang on the windows splash screen... When I look under my computer, I lost 2GB at least cause it says, I only have 24.8 GB... Please help me out.. I wanna get all the benefits out of this HD and I'm just stuck here.. I just bought that drive 7 hrs ago and have it up and running. I did not have to do anything special to have it run @ ATA/33. Just plugged the puppy in.
What hardware are running?
I lost some disk space too. I think w98 can only see 25g partitions. Right after you boot up, the screen that shows all your hardware, you should see 27gig. I do.

bobcat, did you have to install the max-blast HD utility?? I wanna get rid of that HD utility simply because I don't like it.. Is there any way that you can take it off? Also how would you know if your HD is runnin on ATA/33?? I tried to do a benchmark and got dissapointed about the result... I'm the slowest on Sandra's benchmark.. And also, how'd you turn the UDMA on? Pleaase help... /forum/redface.gif

I did not install their tool @ all. I just used it to create partitions.
One of the BIOS pages has the ability to turn on and off UDMA support. Hunt it down and turn it on. Then go to the first page of your BIOS and set your drive to AUTO detect.

bobcat, so how'd you format your HD if you didn't use their HD utility?? I mean I wanna get rid of the EZ bios too coz it slowsdown the bootup process.. And also, how do I make it partition into three or four (8.4 or 8.2 for the max ) different drive letters with FAT32?? Help me out, coz I think I'm losing some speed on my HD coz it's partition is maxed to 25GB.. /forum/frown.gif

This has not been a smooth process for me. Turns out the first drive was bad. Replaced it. Blew a partition away...suck! Have it running nicely now. These are the tools that I used. For this build.
MaxBlaster to create a bunch of partitions. Did this just to test the tool out.
I then used DriveImage to image over the boot partition from an older drive. Couldn't image over any other partitions due to some drive errors on the older drives.
I used Partition Magic to Create a new partition on the Maxtor drive by copying the older partition over.
Normally, I use Partition Magic for everything.
I assume you have installed everything on 1 big 25 g part. Now, you don't want to have to reinstall everything.
I would defrag.
Then take partition magic 4.0 and have it shrink (resize) the 25 g down to 8g. You will then have 16 g free.
You can then create the other partitions as needed.
Hope this helps /forum/smile.gif
