I currently have two hard drives running right now, a 38 gig (western digital, about 4 years old), and a 28 gig which is near 7 years old (not sure which company). Today I bought a 80 gig Western Digital hard drive. I do not have a windows os disc (I had bought many computer parts, then had a local store put it together for me and set it up which included windows without a disc, the store is out of business now and the standing edition of windows is no longer valid, which means I do not have a authentic copy of windows on my system).

I want to make the 80 gig hard drive the primary hard drive. How can I safely transfer all the files on the now primary (38gig hard drive) to my brand new 80 gig hard drive. If there are programs, which are recommended? I want to keep only two hard drives running, which will be the two biggest (80 primary, 38 secondary).

Would it be convenient to format the new hard drive before I set any information upon it?

Norton Ghost is one of several programs that will do it.
