I've got this minor annoyance. When loading up a new IE window, I always get a "You are not connected to the Internet. Work offline or Try again?" Roughly translated. Of course clicking Try again works fine and I don't see the error again. However, how do I get rid of that dang error? I thought there was a setting somewhere. Maybe called "Always connected" or some such, or at least I THINK I remmeber that setting. But I can't seem to find it OR know if that is even the cause of that error. So, does anyone have any insight on this annoyance? This is in Windows 98 with IE 5 and all that installed.

Try going to view>internet options and changing your home page. Also re-installing your modem drivers(maybe try changing them even if they are previous ver. from what you are using worth a shot) and making a new connection. The "always connected" option you are thinking about is only if you are using a non-dial-up connection like a LAN or a ADSL/Cable.

I too have that same "ANNOYING" message since last August! (I had this problem once before back in February for a few months - but fixed it.) ARGH! I forgot what I did to remedy the situation.
In any event, I am on DSL and ALWAYS connected. I never even shut my machine off! Still, this stupid message keeps showing up:

Work Offline
No Connection to the Internet is currently available. To view Internet content that has been saved on your computer, click Work Offline.
Click Try Again to attempt to connect.
Work Offline/Try Again:confused:

It seemed to happen right after downloading the newest version of MS Instant Messenger (at that time it was 4.5) When I delete Outlook Express the problem goes away. But who can live like that?
I have asked Microsoft counteless times to fix this problem; they don't have a clue!
It seems that some nitwit programmers have overridden my settings and I just cannot find where this junk its.

HELP :( It's driving me completely batty!

There are a few possible solutions for this error. Personally, I think it has more to do with the provider but still, if it gets really annoying....

Make sure proxies are not set in IE. For those who aren;t sure where to find them, go to Internet Options - Connections - LAN Settings & then make sure there are no checkmarks on this whole screen. Also try settings the Temporary Internet files settings to no more than 5MB's.

There's also a regfix that comes from Microsoft, I think.
You can download it from here though,
ftp://download.sympatico.ca/FIX/ie5fix.reg

Last, but not least, (the reason I put it last is because, I'm unsure if renaming these files messes up any other programs), though I have used with some success.
Go into dos mode and rename the following files.
sens.dll
sensapi.dll
senscfg.dll

Uncheck the check next to "work offline" from the file menu in I.E.:D
