Hey Guys..
I have a DVD writer - LG GSA 4120B I upgraded the firmware to ver A115
Its a 12X writer, I bought some 16X dvd-r media. My writer only recognizes
the max as 4X for burning in nero and alcohol. Any ideas why I can't burn at 12X
OS XP PRO SP2 - DMA is enabled
Cheers

What kind of media is it? Brand-wise, that is.

It sounds like the media is NOT of a high enough quality to burn at 12X.
If it is name brand disks, then take them back and ask for a refund.

you'll most likely find that the media type is not supported at max speed!
BTW: Memorex do not make their own media! run nero cd\dvd speed to find the real name of the manufacturer.

I had a similar situation with my lite-on drive & memorex disks after I first bought it!
I found a utility called Omnipatcher (http://codeguys.rpc1.org/index.html) that makes changes to the firmware and allows a flash that ups the speed of slower media! The problem is that these guys only designed it to support Lite-On & Sony drives. There may be something similar available for LG drives! I'll have a look around, but I wouldn't hold out too much hope if I were you. :(
