I'm trying to install 3com 3c905c-tx-m cards in a bunch of HP vectra ve's w/ a celeron 400, 32mb RAM, 4g hdd.
PNP has been disabled in the bios for all machines.
After installing the card, win98 detects the card, and I've used the drivers on the disk that came w/ the card. Win copies the drivers, but when it finishes a message comes up: "You cannot install a Plug and Play NIC using NCPA. (or AddHardwareWizard in Windows 95 environment)
Please restart your computer, let the system detect the card and continue installation"

I hit ok, and the pc reboots. The same thing happens again.
I've re-enabled pnp in the bios, I've completely removed the card (and deleted it in network neighborhood) and reinstalled it. I've searched 3com's site, and found nothing. I've searched MS knowledge base for that error message, and didn't find anything. I've installed the nic in each of the 3 pci slots.

What confuses me is that sometimes, it works. It's worked on about half of the cards with no problems, but when it doesn't work, it just doesn't work at all. I can't think of anything else to try.
Any suggestions? TIA!

Question is this the upgrade 98? You know win95 to win 98 upgrade?

You might try once it tells you these error messages to to go in and tell it to update drivers and do it that way

Just a thought though and not sure if this is what you need

There were new drivers today on 3com's site for the card, and they worked. Must have been some kind of weird software issue.
