File download speeds sure are slow...whats up?

Really, I don't know what to make of the fact that I have a eralhigh internet speed and download speed from my providerand every time i download somethingform most places.. my speed for whatever download is so slow...

As an example.....right now i am dl'ing the latest Cold Fear demo from a Califronia site ( I live on the west coast ),and it starts at about 130+ and now is dropped to about 35KBPS.

Whats the point of having such a good connection and speeds if you cannot utilize it???

I know alot depends upon the serverat the other end..but this is the norm for most files i download. Thatas along way from the 7-80KBPS I have as my test speed ;)

Do you have a router? Try rebooting it.

Try uploading a file to your FTP site and then downloading it to see what speeds you get. That will at least tell you if the network download speeds are slow in general, or just slow on the internet.

I used to have blistering speeds on my RoadRunner cable broadband and I've noticed over the past 6 - 12 months it has slowed considerably on many downloads. But several new neighborhoods have been built around mine and they probably all share the same pipe. I can even tell when the kids get home from school because even opening web pages slows down.

I have thwe highest Comcast speed avail. supposely....but iI stillwonder if something needs to be tweaked a bit or what.

When I did a couple of tests using some sources from DSLreports.com the speeds were fast enough but actualy less readings forboth download and upload then just a few months ago.

Now we all know that alot depends uopn the area you live in and maybe someother factors... but after reading some about the subject.. I just think I might be restricted somewhere a bit by who knows what.

The fastest download of anything I get is around 135+ KBPS and that sounds like BS.

Does this not in actuality depend upon the serveron the other end and also how many others are downloading too ( thier server load )

Its like the only real differnce is when i connect up to some site..but even that lately hangs a bit too often for my taste..that is.. unless its like 4:00am or something ..then it flys.

To top it all off... I get this meno from comcast on my TV last night in messages saying the speeds are increased again... which I can't twell if thisis new or the same one they relayed about two weeks ago...
I have already done a modem reboot.

I feel ifI pay so much for this great increase in speed i wouldlike to use it..otherwise it seems worthless....might as well go backto the basic service. ;)

You can basically change the type of service daily if you wanted to. Call Comcast's customer service and tell them what is going on and that you'd like to try the regular service for a week or so to see how it goes. If you get the same speeds, save some bucks and downgrade your service.
