I am trying to convert to fat 32 and am having no success. I have a WD 6.4G Hd partitioned X3 with Fat32. I got system resources as high as 97%, virtual memory (on C-the target drive) at 585 Mg, no luck. It goes through it's DOS thing, then goes back to Windows and says I don't have enough resourses available to convert. I unchecked all of the config & auto exe boxes.
I have a 6.4 w.d. Hdd,
128 Mg SDRAM
Win 98
Amd 350
Where do I go from here??
P.S. The whole purpose of this exercise is to mirror on to my new 18G IBM HDD.in the fat 32 format.
Thanks in advance...

Goto control panel, click on add/remove programs then goto windows setup, click on system tools, insert win98 disk and install drive converter (fat32) then goto start menu/programs/accessories/systemtools/drive converter. It shouldnt run DOS at all for the conversion, also if you have any bad sectors on the HD it wont convert.

I've tried everything I can think of, including re-installing windows. The last de-frag did'nt show any bad clusters.

Can I do a disk copy from my old fat 16 to my new fat 32?

I have some pretty fat files, so I don't want to back up via floppy..

Best course of action??

Just copy everything to your new HD and it will automatically write it in FAT32 on the 18giGer as long as it is fat32. You also mught wanna try a scandisk/thourough on the old HD just to check. Sometimes bad sectors sneak by defrag.

Vampiel..If I understand you correctly, My old HDD is FAT 16, but I can copy it to my Fat 32 Hdd. So it isn't necessary to convert my old one to Fat 32. Fat 16 will write to fat 32 ok.

I had the same problem. Figured that MS great Fat converter didn't like partitions that small to convert. Used Partition Magic /forum/smile.gif

Ummmmm if I'm not mistaken, when you install Win98 doesn't it automatically convert the system to FAT32? Mine does.

Or am i missing something here?

Win 98 gives you the option at set-up, I decided to stay at FAT 16 for no real good reason.
I guess I can't create the space to do the convert. IBM says their utility will copy from a fat 16 drive to a Fat 32 drive using some dos jive, so I will probably just go for it this week end. I just don't want to end up with drive letters C thru W or something...!!

Is there a site for a test/evaluation version of partition magic or equal?
