NEC nd-3540a bruning problem

Im having problem with my New Nec nd-3540a. it wont burn. it says operation fail and it wont burn the cd. Im using windows xp pro sp2 with nero 6.6.0.15 and i even try it with my old roxio 6 software and it did the same thing and it wouldnt burn. i also try changin the cd to a diff manufacture and even dvd's and nothing.

yea. it was able to play old school. with no problem. that is why i dont think it is much a laser problem. it could be more of a driver problem or something but i dont know. im about to call newegg to do a rma but i kind needed it now to burn some files i need. is there any firm ware. like i found something the other night but couldnt install it. i got the website save in my computer so when i get off work i will post what i did found.

Post system specs please!

include: PSU brand\rating, Graphics Card brand\model, CPU brand\model, Drives (optical & local) in system, power consuming accessories!

There's a firmware >Here (http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2109)<, but it would be risky and pointless to flash your drive before you eliminate other possiblities - such as a weak power supply! If the problem lies elsewhere, RMA'ing it won't help either.

so i disconnected the sony dvd-rom and set the NEC dvd burner as the master and switch the cable and i was able to burn a dvd but i cant burn a music cd. it goes 5% into it and it kind freezes and then jumps to 10% and then it fails the burning process. i try changing the speed and also try to different media cd-rs(sony and memorex) any ideas on what going on??? IM really gettin tired of the same mix in my car for 2 months now

the pic attach shows what i get. I notice that it says Power calibration problem would that be internaly or in the ps??? but it burned a dvd and doesnt burn a regular cd

the power supply unit may be failing to meet spec! how old is it & do you live in a dusty environment?

it is almost 2 years old and i live in a mild dusty env but i clean my computer about every other month or so

are the tracks you're trying to burn copyright protected?

I suggest you remove the Power Supply (after making sure it is fully discharged), remove the cover and clean out the dust in there! living in a "mildly dusty environment" means your PS will be chock full of fluff even if your case is relatively dust free.

no i have try also to burn a maxtor hard drive disk cd to see if i can fix my hard drive and it wont burn that either. i tooked the power supply out a few days back and spry the heck out of it with compress air and yes it was dusty as heck

There's a firmware >Here (http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2109)<, you might as well go ahead and give the firmware update a try. It's one of the solutions suggested by Ahead to the Power Calibration Error you got.

I've had two of these drives fail on me, but then again I've burned thousands of discs. Good drives, cheap.
