I have a cousin who's computer has a new WD 13gig hd that we've installed recently and if the computer locks up or he has a power failure at his house when reseting the computer it will say that the last sectors or cluster are not setup right. We've used WD latest diagnostic software on it and it reports everything is working right and nothing to report wrong. I've tried using there software to format it and also used fdisk and format from a win setup disk either way Win 98 still registering this problem. The mobo is a DFI socket7 and the bios has been updated to the latest version and it will pickup the hd in auto config but stil it has this problem. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I've got a smaller WD HD that constantly loses it's partitions as well, I only had a 2.5, so formatted it down to 2.1 which doesn't have to be partitioned, end of problem. Sorry - wish I had better news. I haven't been impressed by WD's diag. and part. tools.
