Installed 3com NIC card & now no system sounds... This is in a Compaq 5070 (AMD 350mhz, 160mb ram, 4.3gig HD). When I goto the sounds menu it shows the sound files but can't play.. says sound files don't exists when they DO... Quake, Duke 3D still plays fine.. but Half Life can't play sound either.
my other PCs work fine w/thier 3com cards...
The MB sucks (it's one of those all-in-one), it's got the sound & video on the MB

I'm betting you hit upon an IRQ conflict which bumped the sound card in favor of the 3COM card. Check this out in control panel, doing a properties search on both the LAN card and whatever sound card you've got out there. Probably need to reconfigure one of the two devices. If you do the sound card, your game set-ups may need to be reset to get the sounds back. Good Luck!
