I recently bought a 17.3Gb Hdd. All was fine until Norton told me it wasn't configured properly, I hadn't partitioned it. So I got Partition Magic 4 to solve this problem. It only tells me that I have just over 4Gb to play with, what the heck is going wrong, I reformatted again and using fdisk it only gave me a total of 4032Mb or something, please help me, I don't want to restore the rest of my computer yet in case I have to do it all again.

1. Those your BIOS suppport that HDD size?
If not you need an updated BIOS, motherboard and/or buy an IDE controller card.
2. Are you using Win95 OSR 2.x or Win98?
If not you need them to make your hard drive FAT32 and be able to use the full HDD as one partition.
3. Did you configured your HDD on the BIOS?
If not check you HDD's head/cylinders/sectors or run the BIOS autoconfigure option (if it has one).
4. If anything else fails some HDD have a jumper to disable a cylinder and be able to use it on win95 or win95a, but not its full size.

1. I have already had the drive working once, recognised and used to it's full capacity, it wasn't until I put Partition Magic on that the problem started, therefore bios is ok.
2. I am using Win98 SE and again this was working before.
3. bios seems to be configured correctly using autodetect.
4. Nothing on HDD has been changed since it was working, I think it must be software or bios, why would fdisk not find the true size?
More help please.
Thanks

We bought an IBM DeskStar 34GXP and we have some problem to fix it on the PackardBell 366.
In the AMIBios Version 1.16, the HardDisk is not detected in the auto
mode.
What could I do? Do you think the BIOS is able to work with a surch hard
disk(?)
Waiting your response,thanks
