Friend of mine has an Emachine with 2.0 Celeron, does the board most likely use DDR or SDRAM?

DDR most likely. Why don't you have him run through the Crucial configurator:

http://www.crucial.com/

Alternatively, he could install Belarc Advisor or Everest Home Edition.

it could be either one. run the configurator or just open the case and look at the ram itself.

Thanks guys for your replys.
My friend is a timid sort of soul. Fears cutting that warranty tape on the back of his computer while opeinging it up will void his warranty LOL. So..... This is his first computer and he lives about 200 miles from me. GOing to visit him soon thought i wuold buy through Newegg and take it with me. The machine he has is one stinky pile of ****. He is running a Celeron based Windows XP Home SP2 with 128M of ram and he has intigrated video. Im amazed any box maker would put their name on any POS like this.

OH your dilemma is much clearer now!! Thats why i asked!! Sure if I had the box I would open it up!!

how is he going to install the ram without opening the case? uh duh.

The tape is there to let the buyer know that it wasn't tamper with since it left the factory. it's not like techs run around with those strips to "reseal" computers after they work on it.

Id agree with Mid I have opend installed memory on emachine computers and they have still got them repaired by techs without any problems.
