I don't know if this is really a modem problem or there's something wrong with my board.. I have a Phanta Link Motorola modem and it keeps on disconnecting or hangs, I was wondering if there's anyone here who has used the same modem and having the same problem like I have.. Also does anyone know where I can get the driver ( if there is one that really resolve the disconnecting and not responding issue ) for this modem? I don't have a problem connecting and the speed is very good, "IF" it will not hang and/or disconnect.. The disconnecting occurs all the time after 2 to three minutes and the hanging occurs all the time too but sometimes only seconds or a minute after I connect to my ISP.. I tried two different ISP's and it's all the same so it's not the ISP.. Help me out please.. Thanks...

Hey there,
I dont know how much help I am going to be but here goes.. I been having a similar problem with my modem too ( Combo Express Modio w/sound built in ) I been searching various posts and found out that my model is a soft modem..I enabled Bus contention in the device manager for the audio codecs and I got this message when I get disconnected also causes various lock ups...
"another device (possible video card) occupies the bus for a very long time and disturbs the modem connection. Set up your hardware to restrict bus usage." and since I left the contention option on it also puts this at the end of the message.." Turn off detect bus contention in "codec|modem" property page to disable this message."
have also noticed 2 different types of errors detected too at different times.. 60 and 1429.
I found a site that mentioned the fact that some software driven modems will conflict with the video card and cause this type of problem. I must also say that I havent found a solution to this problem since I have all the updated drivers and the modems on board BIOS updates installed. and even tried to set my PCI Graphics Blaster Exxtreme to an IRQ even though the documentation for my Chaintech mobo says PCI cards dont really need to have IRQ settings..It works for a while until I get a heavy load during my surfing and then the probs start. Oh yeah and for some reason in the IRQ steering option in device manager is also disabled due to errors in the IRQ table dont know how to fix this either..I know that this was pretty long and I apologize, It just looked like a similar prob to mine.. And any help on this subject would be very appreciated. Thanks everyone.

OK, try this:
In control panel, go to "Modems." Then under "General" click on "Properties." Then click on "Connection" then "Advanced." Check to see if "Flow Control" and "Hardware (RTS/CTS)" are selected (they should be).
You can also adjust the transmit & receive buffers under "Port Settings" in the previous window, if necessary, to stabilize data flow.
I had the same 2-3 minute line drop problem a while back, & turning on the "Hardware" option cured it.
"Hardware" refers to "Hardware Handshaking"- the means by which your modem communicates with the modem on the other end.
Hope this helps... /forum/wink.gif
