Just added a new WD 13.6 gb HD as slave to my Maxtor 8.4 gb. Install went well except new drive took over some of my old partition letters eg. old D partition is now E and new WD claimed D. Is there a way to change the drive letters in Windows or must I use a utility to copy complete partition and then delete the old files. Not sure if I explained the problem well but all help is welcomed ! Thanks

The problem is the way you partitioned your new harddrive. You created a primary partition on the second drive which is why windows assigned it letter "D". To fix, run Fdisk and delete all partition from the new drive. Then use fdisk to create an extended partion covering the entire drive. Inside the extended partition, create one (or more)logical partitions. After you reboot, windows will then assign your drive letters to your first drive as before and then assign new letters to the partition(s) on your new drive. All you then need to do is format the new logical partition(s) on your second drive.

Thanks for your help. Can I run fdisk in Windows or must I boot to dos? Haven't used it before. Thanks.

You can run it in windows. Just open a dos window and type fdisk.
