I was just curious if anyone has seen or heard of a "plug-in" that lets the user add URLs to his HOSTS file. I've got the Adblock extension for Firefox installed...but I also tweak my HOSTS file every now and then when the ads p*** me off enough (I see I've blocked a few here on Sysopt......). Maybe that's what Adblock does, but somehow I doubt it.

Just a thought. The Adblock interface isn't too bad. If there were something like it that updated the HOSTS file, that'd rock.

There are tons of places on the net where you can get host files with thousands of entries already in them. And there are tons of apps like the following:

HostsMan is an application to manage your Windows HOSTS file. It is mainly intended to block specific domains (mostly advertising servers) by redirecting them to localhost, but can also be used to add any other domain/Ip combination that you want to be included in the HOSTS file. In addition to the editing features, HostsMan can prevent other programs from writing to the HOSTS, import and merge Hosts files, resolve IP addresses and mark potential hijack entries. This program assumes that you have basic understanding of the HOSTS functionality.
