Silly thing really. I have a sort of server - an old 1.8Gb machine - down near my desk, I use it to run the printers (3) and store e-mails etc tto keep from clogging my main PC up.
Today it won't let me in at all. Is there a way I can delete the remote desktop parameters ansd start anew?
I've even tried loading some RDP files in MyDocuments but no success. What's going wrong?

We need to know what program you're using to control the server and which operating systems you're using. I can't believe you forgot that.

Have you made any changes to *either* PC? A firewall on your PC could cause the connection to fail.

As you know, networking is complex. We can't provide simplistic answers and we need all of the detail you can provide. Heck, it could be a simple as rebooting or a disconnected LAN cable.

Sorry Bill, I'm a bit at sixes and sevens since I've had to change my handle etc. not being able to log in as me real self, docusk.
Yes all connections are ok and the remote desktop comes up at the screen top so all seems well there.
Right. Win XP pro on both machines. Firewall is MS own brand and is OFF on both machines. I will reboot the server though as it normally stays on 24/7. Have to find the ruddy switch tho'; must be one somewhere!

OK Bill, been bak and re-booted checked all connections - OK - and the firewall is OFF on main PC. I can't tell on the server unless I plug in a monitor and KB etc. If push comes to shove I'll just have to do than - darn it.
Had enuff for the day, off to bed now. Alone as usual.

I sent you a PM, but you may not have been notified.

Please go to the top of page on the right and log out. Log back in with your old ID and password.

PM = Personal message yes? How do I get it? will it come by normal e-mail?

I did try my old login but didn't work. I'll try again with forgot password and see how that goes.
Thanks Bill, as ever, yiou come up with the goods. If I ever develop bipolar problems, I'll just lie back and think of you

Nah, still didn't work. I have looked in both mailbox identities but nothing.
If I can't get it sorted, don't fret too much as I'm not bothered about the status of "Member" over "Junior member" after all, you must have started at the bottom?

Your e-mail address of record is geoff[at]geoff22.plus.com. Any PMs I send to you should forward notification to that address. Are you checking it? Do you even have notification turned on?

By the way, you should enable PMs in this account too so I don't have to publish your e-mail address.

No nothing switched on. It's such a long time since I joined I didn't even think of it, plus I was stressed with not being able to get at my server where all my apps are stored.
Whatever, tks for reminding me. I've turned PM s on and let myself be contacted. I hope to get my old docusk ID back ere long and I won't need to redo my sig and profile.
Finally, I've tried all your advice to get back on to remote desktop but I need to start anew I expect. How can I delete the details like user name and password from the remote machine. If push comes to shove I can hook up a little monitor and KB, already had a mouse for some reason.
Now I should be able to get all PM s

I had a look at the registry to see what there was on RD. I took a few bits out and then got cold feet so I put the backup registry back in. Chicken!
I might at least have a look at the config.sys etc. files see if there are any passwords in there I can eliminate (after I take a copy of course)

I didn't have any success. I think I have foxed everyone especially myself.
I have an app called VNC running and I know it has to do with the RD but it takes all i enter and just sits there. Presumably that's a red herring?
Here I am can't get at my stuff on the ols compaq with an Abit set of innards.
Heigh ho lads and lasses. Time to get deep down and dirty eh?
Johnusk, still who ought to be docusk but for Sysopt's new software. Heigh ho once more.

A friend talked me though the administrative procedure and I got at the password and was able to change it to one I could remember. Easy peasy - when you know how 'aint it?
Also, thank heavens for Skype!
