Is it essentially the same chipset with SLI simply disabled on the Ultra?

I notice that many MB makers use the same BIOS for Ultra and SLI boards....

Abit Fatal1ty boards (AN8) both use the same version 17 bios.

Is this right?

Thanks

Not necessarily. The Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe and Asus A8N-SLI Premium have different hardware when it comes to the SLI configuration. The BIOSes are different and cannot be used on one another.

All nForce4 chipsets up until a couple days ago were the same, with features disabled by nVidia through the removal of resistors to complete the pathways. You can find a reference to which resistors do what in SysOpt's EVGA motherboard review.
